1978

Founded by Dr. Tom Caskey and Dr. Art Beaudet, focused on cytogenetics and biochemical genetics for inborn errors of metabolism.

1996

Baylor College of Medicine Human Genome Sequencing Center (HGSC) designated one of six pilot programs for the final phases of the Human Genome Project (HGP).

2000

HGSC – one of three sites from the pilot program – completes the Human Genome Project.

2003

Specialties in cytogenetics, chromosomal microarray analysis, DNA diagnostics, biochemical genetics and mitochondrial diagnostics.

2004

Chromosomal Microarray developed and launched.

2008

First to offer prenatal CMA.

2011

First to offer whole exome sequencing.

2012

First to offer cancer exome.

2013

First to offer mitomes.

2014

First to offer metabolomics.

Recipient of 1 of 3 National Institutes of Health (NIH) grants for ongoing genetics research, serving as a DNA sequencing Core site for the Undiagnosed Disease Network.

2015

First to offer prenatal trio. Introduced universal carrier screening.
Joint venture with Miraca Holdings combines the best in genetic testing with proven business acumen.

2016

First to introduce non-invasive prenatal sequencing.

2019

Introduced Clinical Whole Genome Sequencing.
